Dagoberto Linhares was born in 1953, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He started his guitar studies at the age of 9 with Manuel Sao Marcos.

Dagoberto Linhares is laureat of several competitions: Sao Paulo Competition, Young Instrumentalists, Concurso Maria Canals de Barcelona, Concours d'Execution Musicale, Geneva, Association des Musiciens Suisses Award. 

In 1972 Dagoberto Linhares continued his studies with Maria Livia Sao Marcos, graduating in 1973 with the first prize of the "Virtuosite" examination. At the same time he was appointed teacher at the Fribourg Conservatory.

He attended the Master Classes of Turibio Santos, Julian Bream and Andres Segovia, who very impressed by his talent predicted him a brillant career.

Since his debuts in 1974 at the Wigmore Hall, London at the Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, New York, at the Salle Gaveau, Paris. D. Linhares has been invited to perform in the major music festivals, as a soloist, recitalist and as chamber musician in Europe, USA, Latin America, USSR, Africa, Poland, Bulgaria, Tchecoslovaquia and Australia and Far East.He opened the Lisbon International Festival wilh Rodrigo's Concerto under the direction of Claudio Scimone and played with various orchestras: Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Symphonic of Birminnham, Instambul, chamber orchestras of Sofia, Zilina, Detmold, Lausanne, I Solisti Veneti, festival Strings of Lucerne as well as the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Bucarest, Sofia, Macau, LCO London,Galicia, Mozarteum of Salzburg... He interpreted the following concertos: Rodrigo, Giuliani,Villa-Lobos, Torroba, Vivaldi and Castelnuovo Tedesco.

He has given several master classes,mostly in Palacio of Mateus in Portugal where he teaches every year since 1980, recorded for the BBC and released numerous records.

Dagoberto Linhares resides in Geneva.He is in charge of the Lausanne Conservatory's professional classes.
